April 15, 2018Intensive Chan Meditation Retreat
June 2, 2018On Sunday, April 15th we presented Venerable Quang Chau with the donations we collected to help with repairs for the vandalism of the Vien Giac Monastery on North Monroe street in Tallahassee.
On March 19th over two dozen marble statues and ornaments throughout the monastery garden were destroyed or damaged. To show the support of our community we collected donations to help with repairs or replacement. In total Tallahassee Chan Center collected $2,150 in donations.
Ven. Quang Chau kindly invited us inside his temple. There he told us about his teacher and lineage in Vietnam. Ven. Quang Chau also shared his vision to expand the monastery and complete his walking meditation garden. Currently they do not have the ability to open the grounds to the public. While touring the meditation garden we saw the damaged statues. Unfortunately, most of the smaller statues were completely destroyed. However, the large statues were too strong to be destroyed and suffered less damage. Clean up and repairs have started on the statues, but Ven. Quang Chau will have further repairs done by professional sculptures.
If you wish to support the repairs you can mail a check to 3909 N. Monroe St. Tallahassee, FL 32303 payable to Vien Giac Buddhist Monastery.
