Movie Night: “Carving the Divine” (Reshowing)

On Tuesday, Sept. 24th, from 6:30-8:00 PM, the Tallahassee Chan Center will reshow our special movie night featuring “Carving the Divine.” This 98-minute documentary, directed by Yujiro Seki, offers an intimate look into the world of Busshi, Japanese Buddhist sculptors, who dedicate their lives to creating sacred statues. The film captures the meticulous artistry and spiritual devotion of these sculptors, revealing the profound cultural and religious significance of their work. Following the screening, we will engage in a discussion to share insights and reflections on the film. Join us for an evening of cultural exploration and meaningful conversation.

Yujiro Seki, a native of Japan, spent more than a decade producing, filming, and editing “Carving the Divine,” his first feature-length documentary. He won the Best Director of a Foreign Language Documentary award at the Milan International Filmmaker Festival and premiered at the famous Raindance Film Festival in London. “Carving the Divine” has become the official selection for 30 film festivals, showing in a total of 22 countries, and has won awards at 12 festivals worldwide.
