SUMMARY:Gateway to Chan Hybrid Retreat
DESCRIPTION:GuoGu will be teaching Gateway to Chan\, a hybrid retreat\, in collaboration with Barre Center for Buddhist Studies. In the Chan tradition\, there are two main approaches to awakening: the method of silent illumination (mòzhào) and investigating a critical phrase (huàtóu). The former is a settling method of serene reflection on the nature of awareness; the latter is an explosive approach that aims to concentrate and shatter all mental states so awakening manifests. This program will deepen your practice\, regardless of method\, with 30-minute sitting meditation periods punctuated by mindful yoga and walking meditation. \nProgram Format: This program will primarily be held in silence with some dharma talks at night; there will not be group discussions or lecture presentations. \n \n\n\n\n\nNoble Silence\n\n\n\n\nNoble silence will be observed during much of this program. Some contemplative exercises may involve mindful speaking and listening. Noble silence is to be upheld at all other times. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nExperience Level\n\n\n\n\nSuitable for intermediate and advanced practitioners. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nPrerequisites\n\n\n\n\nHaving participated in at least one six-day residential Buddhist retreat. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nCancellation Policy\n\n\n\n\nWe understand that personal circumstances may require you to cancel your registration.
