This Wednesday evening’s practice will be held in memory of Fred Glock as a loving kindness practice by Guo Gu. Fred was a mainstay of the Tallahassee Chan Center from its early years. He contributed deeply to the life of the center, offering his time, care, and practical support, and helping Guo Gu bring Chan practice to the West. He was known for his warmth, generosity, and ever-present big smile. Fred passed away in Seattle, surrounded by his family, including his children and grandchildren. This evening’s gathering will be offered in remembrance as two sessions of loving kindness with a break in between. There will be a short opportunity for sharing.
Fred passed away peacefully following a stroke and was unable to speak at the end of his life. Upon hearing of Fred’s death on Sunday, January 25, Guo Gu wrote the following poem in his memory:
Lived to help all beings
Died with no words or form
Abandoning the past, present and future
…Whose spirit just departed?
This gathering is a Loving-Kindness practice dedicated to remembering and celebrating Fred’s life and practice. Friends, sangha members, and family are warmly welcome to join us, either in person or online.
