In this special talk, we delve into the importance of generosity in the Buddhist path, and sevā or selfless service as a way to practice generosity. Drawing from the teachings of Chan from GuoGu by his long-term student, Gita Wijesinghe Pitter, this session will explore why generosity in general and sevā in particular are foundational to the realization of awakening. The session will also discuss specific opportunities for sevā offered by the Chan Center.
Gita Wijesinghe Pitter is a dedicated student of GuoGu and has been a pivotal figure at the Tallahassee Chan Center, serving as an advisor to the board for many years. With a deep commitment to the teachings of Chan Buddhism, Gita has played an instrumental role in shaping the center’s offerings and supporting the community. Her practical approach and compassionate guidance have helped many individuals find peace and clarity amidst life’s challenges.
